You need a really good lawyer, one who is right for your case and fits with your personality and your needs. Finding a lawyer is the easy part. In Chicago, lawyers seem to be on every street corner and on every floor of every high rise. The suburbs are full of them too. Just ask Google. What’s not so easy is to find the right lawyer for you and for your case. The attorney-client relationship is important, special, and entails mutual trust and respect. Both lawyer and law firm should make sure that they are the right fit for each other before entering into an attorney-client professional relationship. At O’Connor Cadiz Law, we do only a few things so that we can do them well. We often get phone calls from past clients or from friends of satisfied clients who have legal problems that are outside of our realm. Some lawyers will take any case that walks in the door. Having been in practice since the late 1990s, the attorney has developed professional contacts over the years who are well trusted. Qualities that we look for in referral lawyers are honesty, fair billing practices, and a good reputation in the community. And they have to be good at what they do, which goes without saying. We provide all referring partners with the same level of attention that we provide to our clients, including written updates, a letter or call from Carol notifying you that the potential client has contacted us and what the outcome was, etc. While we are not allowed to pay referral fees on bankruptcy cases, when allowed on other matters we are happy to pay referral fees and will put a fee agreement in place immediately upon being retained.
