What is a Divorce Decree?

A divorce decree, also called a "Judgement for Dissolution of Marriage" in Illinois, is a legal document issued by the court at the end of a divorce. It legally declares the husband and wife as no longer married and almost always will also set forth the terms of the divorce which have either been decided by the couple by agreement or by the judge following a divorce trial.
