How long do I have to wait to be out of bankruptcy after I file for Chapter 7?

Assuming that there are no bumps in the road and everything goes according to plan, you can expect to have your Chapter 7 case discharged approximately 3 to 4 months after you file. A discharge in Chapter 7 means that your case is closed and that you are no longer obligated to pay the eligible debts.
