Can I file a Joint Bankruptcy Petition with my Girlfriend / Boyfriend?

No. Many unmarried couples have joint debt together and in a bankruptcy situation, they wonder about filing a joint bankruptcy since much of their debt is shared. While this would make sense,  bankruptcy laws currently only allowed married couples to file a joint bankruptcy petition, which is more efficient and saves on fees. That being said, if you are married you do not have to file a joint petition. Many married people chose to file bankruptcy individually.
