I Am Selling My House- Do I Have To Go To The Closing?

The majority of Illinois home sellers chose not to attend their closing- that is one (though not the most important by any means!) reason why they have an attorney. As a seller, you have the right to be at closing but don’t really need to show up as long as you sign a “Power of Attorney” giving your lawyer the right to sign documents for you at closing. Often times the seller is busy moving out or else doesn’t want to take the day off of work. Be sure to meet with your lawyer a few days before closing to sign as many documents as you can, go over the financial aspect of the sale, and get your questions answered. Also, either your attorney or realtor will need to have the keys to give to the buyer at the end of closing.
