Get to Know the Person Behind Your Case. Read More About Carol O’Connor Cadiz, Your Schaumburg and Itasca Family Attorney
Thanks for visiting my website. I'm a lawyer who started out in Chicago and have since moved my offices into the northwestern suburbs of Schaumburg and Itasca. I'm a bankruptcy and family law attorney which means that I help people with:
- Divorce, including chid custody, child support, spousal maintenance and property divisions
- Post- Divorce issues such as enforcing divorce decrees or adjusting child support
- Divorce mediation
- Chapter 7 Bankruptcy
- Chapter 13 Bankruptcy
I am a native of Illinois and graduated from DePaul's law school in 1996. I started my career at a large bankruptcy law firm in the city and four years later, ventured out to start my own firm, primarily in the areas of family law and bankruptcy. The work is hard but I enjoy helping people to see the light at the end of the tunnel and getting them from where they are now to where they need to be. On the personal side, I enjoy cooking and I love to read when I have a little bit of free time to relax. I was raised in a bilingual household and am fluent in Spanish. My mother is from Mexico. My father's side is Irish. My husband is from Chile and I have been married since 2001. At home, I speak both languages. I am also a child of divorce which, if I am to find a sliver lining, it helps me to understand how the children of my clients may be impacted by divorce and how it can be minimized.
A lot of lawyers take too much for granted and do little in the way of educating their clients throughout the process. What I have found is that the majority of the people who I represent are good, hardworking people who have found themselves in a really rough spot. They know that they need legal help but usually don't know what to expect or how to best prepare for it since it is usually the first time they have ever been through a divorce or a bankruptcy. That is why I have written (free!) books to help answer some of the most frequently asked questions that I have heard throughout the years, and to explain the legal processes in Illinois.
If you like what you see on this site and think that I might be the right lawyer for you, give us a call or fill out a webform to request a consultation (& don't forget to claim your book). I look forward to sitting down with you.
