Illinois Chapter 7 Bankruptcy Attorney

If you have fallen on tough times financially and are struggling to pay your debts, bankruptcy may be the right solution. Through bankruptcy, you can eliminate most or all of your debts and get a fresh start for your finances. At Carol Cádiz, Attorney at Law, P.C., we can help you file for personal bankruptcy and regain control of your financial situation.

Discharge Debts Through Chapter 7 Bankruptcy

Unpaid debts have many negative consequences including harassing creditor calls, wage garnishments, repossessions and home foreclosures. Bankruptcy protection can stop all of these things. Through Chapter 7 bankruptcy, also known as liquidation bankruptcy, most types of unsecured debts are eliminated and exemptions allow you to keep most of your property. Only a few types of debt are not eligible for discharge including child and spousal support, school loans, tax debts and certain other debts. Our firm will evaluate your financial circumstances to determine which of your debts will be eliminated through Chapter 7 bankruptcy.

Chapter 7 Bankruptcy Eligibility

In order to file for Chapter 7 bankruptcy protection, you must pass a means test. The means test determines if you meet the financial requirements to receive Chapter 7 protection. If your income is too high, you may not pass the means test. In these cases, Chapter 13 bankruptcy may be a more appropriate option. Attorney Carol Cádiz is experienced in all types of personal bankruptcy. She will work with you to determine which type of bankruptcy is most appropriate for your situation and how to best get your finances back on track.
